The elderly residents at the Light and Love Welfare Services Centre were thoroughly entertained by 3 SG Cares volunteers who visited them. The volunteers were given a short briefing on the Centre and its services, after which they were introduced to the beneficiaries who were mostly above 80 years of age. The elderly were pleased to see new faces at the centre and had an enjoyable time interacting with the volunteers. The group then proceeded to do their workout exercise which was tossing the ball to one another. This may seem simple and mundane but to the elderly it helps in their coordination and reflexes as more balls are added to increase the level of difficulty. The volunteers were on hand to pick any stray balls and to encourage the elderly. After a taxing 30 minutes, the group stopped for a tea break where the volunteers sat with them and chit-chatted over buns and drinks. The day ended after the tea break when the elderly went for their rest time. The volunteers had an enjoyable time befriending the elderly and felt it was worthwhile as they needed someone to be there and interact with them. |
