Caring for community, serving volunteers People who wish to volunteer their service to the community often cite their busy schedules as a reason for not being able to do so. In response to their need for short-term and flexible volunteering opportunities, the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) has set up Singapore Cares (SG Cares) to serve them. SG Cares aims to be the first stop for volunteers seeking volunteering opportunities that match their interest, availability and location. They can choose to serve for a few hours in a variety of activities in different sectors and for different causes. With SG Cares, doing good for others has never been easier. Besides individuals, we are also reaching out to groups, schools and companies. For companies, we advise them on how to develop corporate employee-volunteering programmes and match Volunteer Host Organisations with them.
SG Cares provides volunteers with many benefits, including: choice of flexible, episodic and team-based volunteer projects or activities; guidance and mentoring by experienced volunteer leaders; and up-to-date information from the online portal.
Partnering Volunteer Host Organisations (VHO) SG Cares identifies projects and creates activities for various beneficiaries with VHOs that engage volunteers for a short time (episodic), either on a temporary or long-term basis. It aims to be a one-stop resource centre that recruits, deploys and manages such episodic volunteers while identifying and developing suitable projects and activities with VHOs to engage them on a longer-term basis. Through this partnership with SG Cares, VHOs are able to reach and tap a much larger pool of volunteers. SG Cares intends to adapt and adopt innovative ideas and share best practices from its overseas counterparts. Fostering volunteer leadership SG Cares mobilises experienced volunteer leaders to manage volunteers for each activity. The leaders aim to achieve a positive experience for VHOs, beneficiaries and volunteers. Regular SG Cares volunteers will be trained to become volunteer leaders, who are capable of developing their own projects and grooming future leaders. Online portal SG Cares provides and manages an online portal with real-time updates on episodic volunteering opportunities by VHOs. The portal is a vibrant online marketplace that facilitates the flow of information on volunteering opportunities, allowing efficient registration, activity search and sign-up by volunteers.
