| Becoming a volunteer leader |
- An SG Cares member who volunteers three or more times a year is eligible to become a volunteer leader (VL) if he has been recommended by a VL. Those currently serving as leaders in partner organisations which have nominated them are also eligible. VL candidates will be interviewed by SG Cares in person or over the telephone and must attend VL training.
|
| What a VL does |
| A VL is responsible for: |
- selecting volunteer activities to lead;
- working with the Volunteer Host Organisation to achieve the organisation’s objectives;
- monitoring the response of volunteers;
- leading and managing the team to achieve the activity’s objectives;
- updating the portal with the latest information after the activity; and
- identifying potential leaders
|
| A VL’s positive impact |
- A VL helps SG Cares to lead a meaningful activity which has a positive impact on society. He or she provides the vital link between new and returning volunteers, and helps to create rewarding experiences for them. Returning volunteers continue to support SG Cares and its mission by doing more voluntary work or donating to its funds.
|
| What a VL needs |
| A VL should: |
- be able to communicate, organise and relate well to other people;
- have good interpersonal skills to make the team feel welcome, well informed and comfortable during the project
- be well-informed about the activity, volunteers and the host organisation; and
- be able to lead four or more projects a year or a project for three consecutive months, and to handle administrative duties, such as contacting volunteers, monitoring attendance and providing feedback to SG Cares.
